EKSTRIM: I met Adrian Sol on FB. He's the man behind a blog named Dreams of Consciousness and he has just produced Mixtape # 2, featuring 8 bands from Malaysian Metal scene. I asked him about his viewpoints on Malaysian Metal; the bands and the scene, and a bit about DoC Mixtape # 2.
"Well, I've got a lot of friends in the local scene, and I'm a big fan of bands like Tools of the Trade, Atomicdeath, Sarjan Hassan, WHHIRR, WxIxDxBx and a lot of the other KL/Rumah Api bands. I appreciate their dedication, and I think the passion of the bands and the fans makes up for the lack of resources that the scene faces. The scene doesn't have to be huge as long as the people who are part of it have a real love and dedication to it.
The real genesis of mixtape # 2 was my friend Mike, who loves the local bands that he's heard from me. I got to hang out with Mike for the first time in 2 years when I was visiting NY in May; since I'm not sure when the next time we'll see each other will be, I asked him to join me for a podcast so we could discuss our thoughts on the local scene.
As much as I like the local bands, and I try to go to as many shows here as I can, "Mixtape # 2" was really just an excuse for me and Mike to hang out again. Our friendship goes back more than 15 years, when we used to trade actual cassette tapes. So it was cool to hang out with him and get his thoughts on the Malaysian scene on record." – Adrian Sol
